Through writing, we let out all the feelings we feel—the love, joy, pain, fear, hatred—and the urge to change something that is bigger than ourselves. We write it in our notes, hoping that someone will be able to understand us and where we’re coming from. But the truth is no one will read them if they’re confined in white-ruled papers stacked in the corners.
We have in us words that are not meant to be known and words that are meant to be seen by the world. So, if you have yours that are meant for the world to see, don’t be afraid to free them from the pages and consider submitting them online to these curated local literary outlets I have listed for you.

1. Betsin-artparasites
It is the Filipino parody of Berlin Artparasites (an online art and literary magazine based in Berlin, Germany) that has been around since 2015. They feature literary pieces, artworks, and photographs on their Facebook page. Their community, Betsin-art Paradise, is where thousands of submissions are posted. Most of their featured works are centered around love and grief. If that’s your forte or you’re just poetic in general, Betsin-artparasites is for you.

2. Vox Populi PH
It is a youth-led publication founded in August 2020 that upholds Contemporary Philippine Literature and Youth Writing. They accept submissions of fiction, features, journalistic pieces, academic pieces, and reviews with a rolling deadline for digital publication. If you’re a young writer who wants to influence others and make the unheard voices heard, Vox Populi PH is no doubt your outlet.

3. Novice Magazine
It is another publication created by young creatives in April 2019. They accept works of poems, essays, short stories, artworks, and photographs, and are currently calling for submissions to their fourth issue. They also publish special issues featuring unique perspectives and stories. If you’re interested in telling stories inspired by the locals, the emerging trends, and the evolving culture, Novice Magazine waits for you.

4. Likhaan
It is the University of the Philippines Institute of Creative Writing established in 1979. Currently, they are calling for submissions to the 6th Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio Writers Workshop on folklore in contemporary literature. The workshop is held annually. If you want to develop your writing skills and learn from established writers, then Likhaan is the perfect place to go.

5. Sinagtala
It is the Dawn’s annual literary folio and is currently in its fifth edition. The Dawn is the official student publication of the University of the East founded in 1947. They accept submissions of essays, short stories, letters, prose, poetry, photography, and visual art, from any bona fide college student of the university. If you’re a Red Warrior with a story for the Dawn to shine a light on, Sinagtala is the place where you belong.
